About Us

The Association of Military Colleges and Schools of the United States (AMCSUS) was founded in 1914 and its current membership includes 40 fully-accredited military colleges and college preparatory schools.

Military Colleges and Schools represent an investment in the future. Our schools help young adults understand, appreciate and achieve their fullest potential. AMCSUS schools provide students with a structured environment which allows them to focus fully on their education and future. Our schools offer small classes where students receive the attention they need and are challenged to think critically. Our schools educate the "Whole Person" with challenging academics, an emphasis on leadership and character development as well as athletics and spiritual development.

Counter to the way military schools are often portrayed by Hollywood, AMCSUS schools are not a refuge for troubled teens and in fact have a zero tolerance program for hazing, drug use and other unacceptable behavior.

- Senior Military Colleges (e.g. 4-year Colleges & Universities) which provide a superb education leading to a baccalaureate degree and, for those who choose, the opportunity to be part of a military organization that emphasizes leadership development, service, and core values--like honor, integrity, duty, service and self-discipline. All schools offer optional programs that can lead to a commission in the Armed Services of our country.

- Military Junior Colleges (Two-Year Colleges offering an Associates Degree) provide highly motivated young adults a smooth transition from high school to college with a rigorous academic program in a military-styled setting. Our junior colleges also have unique programs (e.g. Early Commissioning Program) that offer the opportunity for early commissioning in the Armed Forces.

-College Preparatory Schools and Military Academies (K-12) provide a quality education that prepares each student for success at college and develops the values and leadership skills necessary for productive citizenship. Our College Prep Schools include both boys-only and coed programs. While the majority of our membership are boarding schools (some offering day programs), we also have 5 Schools which are completely Day programs (3 of which are Public Military Charter Institutes).

We welcome you and invite you to learn more about our individual schools; they are national treasures!
